Top 5 Tips To Get Freelance Clients to Love You
Love them or hate them, happy clients are happy customers. Here’s five tips to keep your clients coming back.
One of the keys to a successful freelance career is the ability to build a strong rapport with your clients.
As a freelancer, you may find that you spend more “time” with your clients than you do with family or friends. The better rapport you have with them, the more money, opportunities, and success you will find comes your way.
It’s natural — people love to work with people who make their lives easier!
Here are some tips to help make your freelance clients love you:
Tip 1: Stick To Your Timelines
Nothing frustrates clients more than working with a freelancer who can’t seem to stick to their deadlines.
When you make a commitment, stick to it. This will show your clients that you are reliable and trustworthy.
Learning how much time you need for projects is a process. You will likely stumble before you discover the best way to plan projects. You will probably miss deadlines, too.
However, that is not an excuse to repeat the mistake again and again.
Tip 2: Be Patient With Clients
Details can stress clients out just like you.
They worry about their own issues, including project complexity, tight deadlines imposed by other clients or managers, budget cuts, and a number of other things.
They may not always be in the best state to work with you, but they are paying you to do your job.
If clients make mistakes, politely correct them all while keeping a smile on your face. If clients change their minds about what they want and deviate from the original plan, take care not to roll your eyes or sigh.
Just go with the flow and work things out as best as you can.
Tip 3: Communicate Effectively
Did you know that interpersonal communication skills are at the top of the list for gig workers? Poor communication is one of the main reasons for freelance project failures.
When clients can’t understand what you’re trying to tell them, they will get frustrated and may even blame you for not communicating effectively.
If you’re unsure how to explain something, just show the client what you want them to see. If your clients still can’t understand what you mean after trying effort, maybe it’s time to review your explanations and try again.
Tip 4: Maintain a Good Reputation Among Clients
Frequent complaints from a single client might not have anything to do with you.
If you get a mean client who doesn’t want anything good for you, just decline the project politely and move on.
There is nothing wrong with turning down work if something better is waiting around the corner. The worst thing you can do is continue the relationship and put yourself through the torture.
Tip 5: Keep a Good Attitude
No one wants to work with a freelancer who has a bad attitude. It’s infectious and can quickly spoil the client-freelancer relationship. If you’re feeling stressed, take some time off to relax. When you come back, be sure to have a positive attitude and be communicative.
Freelancing is a great way to make a living, but it’s not always easy. With a bit of effort and these simple tips, you can make your freelance clients love you.
