Because freelancers need a break sometimes, too .
Ah, the holiday season. That magical time of year when work winds down, family and friends get together, and we all get a much-needed chance to rest and recharge.
I’m talking to you, my fellow freelancers.
I know how easy it is for us self-employed folks to just keep pushing through the holidays with nose to the grindstone.
After all, time is money, right? Who can afford to take a break when there are always more clients to pursue and projects to work on?
Believe me though, I’ve learned this the hard way: if you don’t purposefully build in downtime, you’ll burn out.
No one can run full steam ahead forever. Our minds and bodies just don’t work that way.
So do yourself a favor and actually relax and enjoy yourself this December!
Spend time doing whatever recharges you — maybe it’s getting out into nature, cooking fancy meals, playing games with friends or doing an extended Netflix binge.
I don’t care what it is — after the year (or years!) we’ve all had, you straight up deserve a guilt-free break — however short.
And here’s a reassuring thought: all that client work you temporarily step away from?
It’ll still be there waiting for you when you get back. Trust me, it always is!
We freelancers have to be strict with scheduling in vacations and downtime since we don’t get paid time off.
But increasingly, I’m realizing just how critical it is for productivity, creativity and happiness to take regular breaks from work.
So this holiday season, do yourself (and ultimately your business and your clients) a favor by actually unplugging for a bit.
Take a breath. Recharge. You deserve it.
