There’s an old saying that goes, “Write what you know.”

And while that’s certainly good advice, there’s something else you should keep in mind when you sit down to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard):

Your audience is vitally important, and you need to consider them carefully before you start putting words on the page.

After all, you don’t want to bombard them with information they don’t care about, or that is too difficult for them to understand.
